John,
I don’t know how the contrast between our campaign and Nancy Pelosi could be any clearer.
Following on the heels of her calling Trump “obese” and then likening him to “a kid with doggy-doo on his shoe,” Pelosi is doubling down on empty gestures.
This time, she’s demanding that Trump lower American flags to half-mast to commemorate the 100,000th victim of COVID-19.
That would be a fine gesture if it had any teeth, but it doesn’t. If the new HEROES Act passes, a paltry one-time $1,200 payment is all the money workers will get. And Pelosi isn’t even fighting very hard for that.
Instead, she ensured that the bill reclassifies D.C.-lobbyist firms for Big Oil and Pharma as “small businesses,” so that they’ll be eligible for huge loans!
A similar loan went to a big San Francisco real estate conglomerate, Veritas. Pelosi feigned anger, but they still got their loan—while millions of us couldn’t make rent.
This is a disturbing revelation of unacceptable priorities. During a pandemic, workers should get $2,000 per month, every month, instead of peanuts. Loans should go to small businesses, instead of the lawyers for giant corporations. And members of Congress should represent us with hard votes, instead of showing off for the cameras with inconsequential “smack talk.”
Pelosi represents name-calling and theater. Our campaign represents urgent action responding to the needs of this moment.
