First: Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs emerged with a narrow 734-vote lead after polls closed in the North Carolina Supreme Court race.

Then: Republicans filed a legal challenge, attempting to throw out over 60,000 valid votes, citing so-called "irregularities" to overturn the results.

Now: The GOP-controlled Supreme Court has blocked certification of the race – over two months after Election Day.
