Welcome to our Team Tillis newsletter, where we discuss what Thom has been up to from the campaign trail to Capitol Hill, and everything in between! |
| | Dear Friend, It was a big week on Capitol Hill. In addition to meaningful bills hitting the floor in both chambers of Congress, the results of the 2024 election were officially certified. Donald J. Trump will soon be sworn in as our 47th President, and we will be able to make America prosperous and safe again. ✔️ Republican President. ✔️ Republican Senate Majority. ✔️ Republican House Majority. The trifecta is coming—and there’s no stopping us now. Senator Tillis is ready to maximize this opportunity and work with our fellow conservatives to fix the mess Democrats created. One example is our wide-open border. We sent out a poll earlier this week asking about your top resolution for America in 2025, and the response was overwhelming: SECURE THE BORDER. Senator Tillis knows this is at the top of your list of concerns—and he’s prepared to help President Trump shut it down and restore the rule of law. Thank you for your support! -Team Tillis

Legislative Highlights: The Laken Riley Act |
Laken Riley was just 22 years old when she was murdered in cold blood by an illegal immigrant, who previously committed a crime, but wasn’t deported due to President Biden’s disastrous border policies. It’s been nearly a year since that devastating day, and this week, Senate Republicans took action. Thom was proud to co-sponsor the Laken Riley Act, which ensures that violent, criminal illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes are deported immediately so they cannot re-offend and commit further crimes. It will also ensure states have standing to bring civil action against federal officials who refuse to enforce immigration law or who violate the law. Our hope is that this commonsense legislation will garner the support it needs to get signed into law. We must allow ICE to detain and deport criminal illegal immigrants rather than let them continue to threaten our communities. → Read more: Senate advances Laken Riley Act to crack down on illegal immigration in bipartisan vote (NBC News) |
On the Horizon: Protecting Women in Sports |
Americans have made it clear that they want fairness and safety for female athletes, so Thom has been working closely with his Republican Senate colleagues to reintroduce the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This bill will ensure that women’s sports remain for women, preserving both fairness and the integrity of female athletics for generations to come. Specifically, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act: - Ensures Title IX provisions treat gender as “recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”
- Bans recipients of federal funding from operating, sponsoring, or facilitating athletic programs that permit a male to participate in a women’s sporting event.
The goal is to ensure a fair future for our daughters and granddaughters, and to do that, we cannot allow men to compete in women’s sports or steal their opportunities. → Read more: Transgender bill barring men from women’s sports to get floor vote in newly GOP-led Senate (Fox News) |
North Carolina News: Hurricane Helene Recovery Continues
|
What’s happening in Southern California is an absolute tragedy, and our hearts go out to those having to flee their homes and deal with the crushing aftermath. But we are not going to let the federal government forget about Western North Carolina. Thankfully, Thom is fighting tooth and nail for natural disaster relief funds for communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. He recently announced $1.65 billion in grant funds to help rebuild communities, a crucial first step in the long journey toward recovery for Western North Carolina. These funds, part of the $100 billion disaster supplemental bill, will deliver critical relief to the hardest-hit areas as we continue our efforts to restore and rebuild. Thom has also called on President Biden to use ALL available housing resources, especially direct temporary housing assistance, to get families back to their properties and in warm homes. Now, Governor Stein and the General Assembly must work to replace NCORR, a debacle of an agency that mismanaged billions of federal dollars for the Matthew and Florence recovery and has left thousands of North Carolinians without homes. We have to get this right. More must be done to help Western North Carolina recover from Hurricane Helene, and we will continue to fight for the affected families every step of the way. → Read more: Tillis announces $1.65 billion in grants on the way to WNC communities devastated by Helene (The Carolina Journal) |
