Hi friend,
It's been a difficult start to the new year as we continue to grapple with the climate destruction and devastation we're seeing everywhere on the news.
Entire homes are gone. Community centers, parks, schools, coffee shops, gas stations—all eviscerated by the wildfires that have engulfed Los Angeles County.
These devastating losses are reminders of the growing cost of climate change and the urgent need for leaders who take the climate crisis seriously. And while President-elect Trump continues to fan the flames of disaster with inaction and complete indifference to the suffering of the people he was elected to serve, it doesn't mean we all have to.
Because being in the climate fight means showing up for each other, whether from near or afar. As relief efforts continue on the ground in Southern California, please visit the Mutual Aid LA Network (MALAN), which delivers direct assistance to marginalized communities impacted, to see how you can help.
And for anyone feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of this crisis and the fight ahead of us, check out this resource for coping with disasters.
There's no easy fix for what happened this week, or what will happen in the months to come. But as the Rebecca Solnit quote we keep turning to says: "the fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything—and everything we can save is worth saving."
As the climate crisis continues to unfold around us, Evergreen will not stop trying to save everything we can by working for real solutions that give all of us a chance at a safer, better future.
