I'll be very direct, John.
In this email, I’m going to ask you to make a donation to my campaign for U.S. Congress in California’s 8th district. There’s a very important reason why, and I hope you’ll give me a moment to explain myself.
In the most recent fundraising quarter, you helped us outraise Rep. Paul Cook by over $66,000. We also broke the quarterly fundraising record for any Democrat running in the 8th district.
It was a huge accomplishment, but what’s more important is how we did it. While the majority of Paul Cook’s cash came from PACs in Washington, all of our support came from individual donations -- folks chipping in on emails just like this one.
Now, Paul Cook and his special interest allies in Washington are getting nervous about our momentum. It’s why he’s taken to calling me names and belittling our campaign in the local press. It’s unfortunate, but hey, he’s proving our point that we’re a serious threat to his seat.
Here’s the truth: Pretty soon, Paul Cook’s petty insults will turn into paid attack ads against us. We need to be ready for what’s to come, and right now it’s very important that we send a message that our momentum will hold strong no matter what they throw our way. So here’s the part where I ask:
John, can you chip in a donation of $10 or more to help me flip California’s 8th district? We have a chance to make history, but only if we work together.
