TakeAction Minnesota Weekly Wrap [[link removed]]
Dear John,
Elections can be stressful. It’s not just voting, or watching the results come in, but the indecision as the final votes are counted in small elections determined by a few votes. And let’s be real, there’s so much reporting on the presidential election, or senate races, but you have to go digging through google searches and paywalled news sites to try to find results for more local elections. So now that the dust has settled, what exactly is going on with the Minnesota legislature?
Here’s what we’re reading, watching, and listening to this week.
DFL Strike
You might have heard rumblings that the DFL is going on strike [[link removed]] , but what does that even mean?
Basically, Republicans are playing their usual poor faith hardball. Without having 68 seats in the House, the GOP has a temporary plurality, but not a majority. GOP Leadership is taking advantage of the two weeks until the special election to attempt an illegitimate two-year power grab.
TakeAction Minnesota believes that our legislators should use every lever they have to protect our democracy and get to work for Minnesotans, and the House DFL is prepared to do just that. DFL legislators are fighting back, and if a power-sharing agreement hasn’t been signed by Tuesday, they’ll refuse to show up and give the GOP the necessary quorum they’d need for their un-democratic powergrab. Once the people have spoken and a new representative is seated in 40B, the state legislature can move forward with the hard work of co-governing.
DFL legislators should hold the line, so they can protect our wins on health care, for kids, everyday Minnesotans rights and public resources.

Special Election in Senate District 60
Former State Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic, “ one of the architects of the DFL’s historic 2023 legislative session [[link removed]] ”, passed away a week ago.
“Her legacy includes policy achievements that will touch the lives of nearly every Minnesotan: the right to abortion in law; free school lunch for all; climate regulation; driver’s licenses for undocumented people; and billions of dollars in funding for infrastructure and housing.”
This has triggered a special election in SD60, and we have endorsed stalwart progressive Monica Meyer to continue on Dziedzic’s legacy of delivering for the people of Minnesota.
The district is a safe DFL district, and once the special election has completed, the DFL will retain a slim one seat majority.
