California Wildfires: Resources
The Los Angeles area has endured a devastating series of wildfires, leading to widespread destruction. California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, the state's first out LGBTQ+ statewide elected, issued a new mandatory one-year moratorium protecting homeowners' insurance as the fires continue to rage.
U.S. Congressman Robert Garcia, who represents Long Beach and sections of LA, has been issuing updates for those impacted through his social media accounts, including an update on funding availability from FEMA.
Ysabel Jurado, who was just elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2024, has been posting updates and is on the ground working with aid groups. Follow along here.

Special election: Minnesota!
The 2025 elections have already begun – with special elections in the Minnesota legislature! 13 candidates have jumped into the race to fill an open Senate seat, after the passing of the incumbent representative. The primary will be next Tuesday, January 14.
We’re proud to endorse Monica Meyer for Minnesota State Senate, District 60! Monica has a deep background in LGBTQ+ politics and advocacy from their work at OutFront Minnesota, Equality Federation, and Gender Justice, where she is currently the political director. The First 2025 Endorsements!
We’ve announced first endorsements for the 2025 election cycle, supporting 15 out LGBTQ+ candidates across various federal, state, and local races nationwide! Among the non-incumbent candidates is Gina Ortiz Jones, running for Mayor of San Antonio, Texas. The list also includes several incumbents, such as Michael Fenton for Springfield City Council in Massachusetts, Chad West for Dallas City Council in Texas and Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford to the Madison Common Council (the first out trans woman elected to public office in WI!).

Trans History in Ohio!
Congratulations are in order for Arienne Childrey, who was the first out person to serve on a city council in Ohio! Arienne will serve on the St. Marys City Council.
Arienne’s 2024 candidacy for the Ohio State House was challenged under an unfair application of name-change laws that were not promoted on election forms.
