James, the
wildfires tearing through Los Angeles are no accident.

These are Fossil Fueled Fires — the devastating result of decades of
corporate greed colliding with climate reality. Lives are being lost,
hundreds of thousands are being evacuated, and homes are being destroyed.

Yet, while Californians breathe in smoke and watch their homes burn,
ExxonMobil and Chevron are counting their many billions in profits from
last year. These same companies spent decades burying climate science and
funding disinformation, knowing full well this future was coming. They
chose this.

[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition today to demand Governor Newsom and California
legislators pass a climate superfund bill. The corporations causing
climate chaos should foot the bill.

Now, California is facing a staggering $46 billion budget deficit, forcing
cuts to wildfire prevention programs. And families are being pushed to the
brink:

* Insurance companies like State Farm have abandoned fire-prone
communities, canceling 69% of policies and leaving families to face
skyrocketing premiums or go without coverage.
* One in eight California households can’t pay their water bills due to
drought and rising costs.

Meanwhile, fossil fuel giants exploit tax loopholes and rake in record
profits, refusing to take any responsibility for the destruction they’re
causing. Their profits come at a devastating human cost, and it’s time to
hold them accountable.

New York just showed a better way, passing a groundbreaking climate
superfund law requiring polluters to contribute $75 billion to address
climate damages. California must follow suit. Legislation to create a
climate superfund here will soon be re-introduced.

The choice is clear:

* Make polluters pay their fair share to rebuild and protect our
communities, or
* Watch climate chaos bankrupt our state while fossil fuel executives
pocket bonuses.

The fires burning through Los Angeles send a clear message: We’re out of
time for half measures. Those who profited from this crisis must pay to
help fix it. Our families and communities cannot wait. [ [link removed] ]Sign the

Together, we can make polluters pay—and build a safer, more resilient
future for all. Thank you for taking action, and stay safe!
