Dear John,
Today marks the end of the first full week of the 119th Congress. Even with the excitement of a new year and new members, we didn’t waste any time moving forward with our official duties.
On Monday, Congress certified the results of the 2024 presidential election.
The peaceful transfer of power is one of the bedrocks of our democracy, so I’m proud to have stood alongside my colleagues in both parties as we performed our constitutional duty.
From there, we hit the ground running introducing and voting on important legislation.
This week, alongside my bipartisan colleagues, I introduced the National Law Enforcement Remembrance, Support and Community Outreach Act to provide much-needed support for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve to be recognized for that sacrifice. This bill will provide critical resources to programs that honor the service of our law enforcement officers and increase awareness of the important work they do.
This is just the beginning, and we’ve got much more to do, but we're off to a good start. I look forward to working across the aisle this Congress to pass commonsense bills that will cut costs, support small businesses and improve the quality of life for hard working folks in Minnesota’s Second District.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Bringing home nearly $25.5 million to improve Highway 19 in Northfield
This week, I secured $25,490,000 to upgrade Highway 19 and improve traffic safety in Northfield. This grant will go to the Minnesota Department of Transportation to reconstruct Trunk Highway 19 from Decker Avenue to the Union Pacific Railroad, making the route safer for drivers and streamlining traffic.
Every day, thousands of Minnesotans rely on Highway 19 to get to and from work, school, the doctor’s office, the grocery store – you name it. That’s why we've got to make sure heavily trafficked routes like this one are up to date.
I’m proud to have secured this funding to ease the flow of traffic and keep folks in Northfield safe, and you can be sure I will keep working to improve critical infrastructure in Minnesota’s Second District.
Meeting with Minnesotans in DC
Now that Congress is back in session, I'm back to meeting with Minnesotans here in my office on Capitol Hill.
It was great to have my friend, Minnesota Association of Counties President and Dakota County Commissioner Mike Slavik, in town on Wednesday to discuss how we can continue our work together to strengthen Minnesota’s communities in the 119th Congress.
It’s always great to see friendly faces here in DC, and on top of that, I get my best ideas from Minnesotans, so these meetings are a win-win! I look forward to many more of these conversations here on Capitol Hill and back home in Minnesota’s Second District.
A productive day back home
Today, I spent the day back in Minnesota.
I started off by visiting with labor leaders at the Minneapolis Building and Construction Trades Council Holiday Brunch to talk about how we continue our work together to connect more Minnesotans to good-paying jobs in the trades.
Then, I visited with Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce President Jon Althoff in Eagan to hear more about their 2025 priorities.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
New Congress, new office! As I get settled into my new spot, I thought I’d share a sneak peak of my new home in the Rayburn House Office Building. Yes, there’s snow on the ground in DC, which makes it feel a little more like home when I’m away.
I look forward to welcoming many of you into my office this year.
Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
