Wildfire Safety: Protect Your Lungs and Loved Ones
Our hearts are with everyone in California impacted by the devastating wildfires. We also want to express our deepest gratitude to the firefighters and first responders working tirelessly to protect communities. If your area is affected, we encourage you to

prioritize your safety and protect your lungs.
First and foremost, we urge you to listen to emergency communications and evacuate if directed. If you or a loved one has lung disease, please follow these tips when evacuating:
-
Make sure you have all medications, inhalers and medical devices.
-
When driving to evacuate, keep your windows and vents closed. Air conditioning should only be operated in the "recirculate" setting.
-
Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience wheezing, shortness of breath, chest heaviness, persistent cough or difficulty breathing.
5 Tips to Protect Your Lungs
The current air quality in LA and surrounding communities is dangerous for everyone, especially for people with chronic lung conditions like asthma and COPD. If you or your loved ones are in areas affected by wildfire smoke, here are five tips to protect your lungs:
If you are not in the evacuation zone, stay indoors.
Keep doors, windows and fireplace dampers shut.
If you have central air, run on recirculate to filter the air without drawing in outside air.
If you have to go outside, wear an N-95 or N-100 mask. Surgical masks and cloth masks don’t protect against smoke.

Create a clean room in your home to reduce exposure to wildfire smoke while indoors.
