Greetings!

I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives.

On January 6, 2025, Congress met in a joint session to count electoral college votes and to certify President Donald J. Trump's election as the next President of the United States. On November 5, 2024, the American people spoke loud and clear: They are sick and tired of the failed policies of the Biden Administration and the Democrat Party. In Congress, I will work alongside my House Republican colleagues and the Trump Administration to advance common sense and America First policies. For far too long, our country has suffered under the failed leadership of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. In a little over one week, President Trump will return to the White House and lead our country into a new golden age.

Reps. Troy E. Nehls and Jimmy Panetta Reintroduce the National Law Enforcement Remembrance, Support, and Community Outreach Act

This week, I reintroduced the National Law Enforcement Remembrance, Support, and Community Outreach Act alongside my colleague, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19), and 29 Members of Congress.

This bipartisan bill would establish a formal program within the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) to support and enhance the community outreach, public education, and officer safety and wellness programs of the National Law Enforcement Museum through grants to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). These programs would memorialize and honor law enforcement, compile data on law enforcement fatalities and injuries, increase public understanding of and support for law enforcement, enhance and improve law enforcement officer safety and wellness, and bring law enforcement closer to the communities they serve.

Day in and day out, our nation's law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect our communities, often without recognition. This bill would pay tribute to and honor our law enforcement officers and bring public awareness to their service and sacrifices. As a former law enforcement officer, I will always back the blue.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Co-leads the Venue Named Under Exception Act (VENUE Act)

The Venue Named Under Exception (VENUE) Act would allow individuals charged with a crime on federal property in the Washington, D.C., area to transfer their trial to a federal court in their home jurisdiction. I was proud to co-lead this legislation in the 118th Congress, and I am proud to announce that I am the co-lead for this bill again in the 119th Congress.

Every person charged with a federal crime in our nation's capital should have the option to transfer their trial to a federal court in their home state. Over the past few years, partisan politics have played a role in criminal trials, and this bill will protect those charged with a federal crime in Washington, D.C., from partisan politics by guaranteeing them the option to have a trial in their home state.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes YES to Pass the Laken Riley Act

Laken Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student who was murdered by an illegal alien in February 2024. Jose Ibarra, Laken Riley's murderer, is an illegal alien who had been previously cited for shoplifting by the Athens Police Department in the state of Georgia.

This week, I proudly voted for, and the United States House of Representatives passed the Laken Riley Act. The Laken Riley Act would amend federal law to require Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to issue detainers and take custody of illegal aliens who commit theft-related crimes, such as shoplifting, as defined by state and local law. Additionally, the Laken Riley Act allows state attorneys general to sue the Secretary of Homeland Security for relief if immigration actions such as parole, violation of detention requirements, or other policy failures harm a state or its citizens.

I encourage the United States Senate to swiftly pass this legislation so President Donald Trump can sign it into law.

Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes YES to Pass the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an unelected, unaccountable institution that has no legal authority or factual basis to prosecute American or Israeli officials.

This week, I voted "YES" to pass H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act. This bill requires the President to impose sanctions against ICC officials who investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute a U.S. person or our allies, including Israel. Additionally, H.R. 23 rescinds funding for the ICC and prevents future appropriations.
