BIG Update

On Monday, January 6, I attended the Joint Session to count electoral votes of the 2024 election, confirming that President Donald Trump won the election. With less than two weeks until the inauguration, I’m looking forward to having a president in the White House who will help secure the border, cut spending, get tough on China, and make government more efficient.

BIG Idea

In February 2024, Laken Riley, a University of Georgia nursing student, was brutally murdered by a Venezuelan illegal immigrant while she was on a jog. The suspected murderer had been arrested and released multiple times in the years prior. This murder should have never happened.

This week, the House passed the Laken Riley Act, with bipartisan support, to protect our communities. The bill would require Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to take custody of illegal aliens who are convicted or admitted to committing burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting. We have to keep our streets safe so tragic events like Riley’s murder don’t happen again.

BIG News

I introduced a bill to allow President Trump to re-purchase the Panama Canal. Some think this is a crazy idea, but it is one of many excellent strategic options to safeguard North America from China.

In recent years, China has increased its presence in the Panama Canal. Not only does China have managing rights for the two ports on both sides of the canal, but they have also established Chinese companies on the land adjacent to the canal. U.S. leaders are concerned that such infrastructure presence from China could pose a security vulnerability, as ninety percent of military cargo travels by commercial ships. Further, any blockades in the canal would force ocean shippers to travel an additional 8,000 miles around South America. Any disruption in the canal would have devastating consequences for America’s national, economic, and food security, and not to mention cause significant delays, higher shipping costs, and increased prices for goods.

America must project strength abroad – owning and operating the Panama Canal might be an important step towards a stronger America and a more secure globe.
