In 10 days, Donald Trump will be sworn in as President for a second time. But unlike in 2016, our movement has grown exponentially and we know just how to prepare for the fights ahead.
In a moment, I'm going to ask you to support these fights ahead with a gift to the Everytown Action Fund. But first, I'd like to share more about what we're doing in advance of the inauguration and what we plan to do once Trump takes hold of the Oval Office:
We're already seeing encouraging progress in gun safety and are mobilizing to keep this momentum going:
- Illinois just passed legislation to protect domestic violence survivors from gun violence. This legislation strengthens current Illinois law and protects domestic violence survivors from gun violence by swiftly disarming people who are subject to domestic violence restraining orders.
- At the end of 2024, Rhode Island enacted a secure storage law that will help keep Rhode Islanders safe from gun violence.
- And we're on the ground to push newly convened legislatures to vote on and pass policies that advance gun safety, like closing high-capacity magazine loopholes and keeping guns out of kids' hands.
Plus, we're gearing up to push back against the influx of bills from last year that would arm teachers and make our students less safe. With Trump in power, we can undoubtedly expect to see more emboldened gun lobby-backed candidates introduce reckless bills like these everywhere.
So, 10 days from now will bring some new—and familiar—challenges, but in the eight years since Trump was first in office, our grassroots movement has grown to nearly three times that of the NRA—reaching 11 million volunteers, survivors, advocates, and supporters.
