Supreme Court rejects Trump bid to halt hush-money case sentencing
Despite the 78-year-old con man's best efforts — including a brazenly unethical phone call with Justice Samuel Alito just hours before a last-ditch filing before the high court — Trump was unable to derail today's porn-star hush-money sentencing hearing in New York. The MAGA cult leader had urged the top court to consider whether he was entitled to an automatic stay of his sentencing, but the justices rejected the application by 5-4. Alito, you will not be surprised to learn, voted with the minority to protect Donald, who is now formally and officially a convicted and sentenced felon as of this morning. May that most deserving of titles stick forever more.

Conservatives on the North Carolina Supreme Court blocked the certification of newly elected Justice Allison Riggs in a brazen effort to STEAL her seat on behalf of her vanquished Republican opponent in "the most under-covered story in America today," according to Democracy Watch co-host Marc Elias. Roll the tape.

Over 17,000 doctors sign letter urging Senate to reject RFK Jr. as health secretary
In a scathing letter posted online by the Committee to Protect Health Care, a physician organization that advocates for health policy issues, more than 17,000 doctors urged senators to reject the nomination of roadkill collector and radical anti-vaxx conspiracy theorist Kennedy, calling him "unqualified to lead" and "actively dangerous." "This appointment is a slap in the face to every health care professional who has spent their lives working to protect patients from preventable illness and death," the letter reads. "Americans deserve better."

Elon Musk boosts, then deletes tweet agreeing with Alex Jones' claim that LA fires are part of a "globalist plot" to trigger US collapse
Donald Trump's ketamine-popping sugar-daddy, aka President Musk, just casually blamed the horrific wildfires ravaging Los Angeles on a cabal of globalists engaging in economic warfare to deindustrialize the United States before triggering its total collapse. Oh, wait. Sorry, bankrupt numskull and sentient hemorrhoid Alex Jones actually said that. Elon simply boosted the batshit crazy claim to his 200 million followers with a simple, one-world message: "True." Fun fact: when maniacs like Jones and Musk say "globalists" they really mean "Jews." That way they get to deny their antisemitism and flaunt it, too. Cool.

Danish newspaper reports Trump team paid homeless and disadvantaged people to pretend to be supporters during Don Jr. photo op
The MAGA cult leader dispatched his eldest son and incorrigibly obnoxious far-right pundit Charlie Kirk to Greenland to manufacture some good, old-fashioned propaganda to help make the case for Trump's truly hare-brained scheme to somehow take Greenland and jam it into America as a new state or territory, or something. The pair reportedly did not disappoint, staging photo ops on their so-called tourism trip where they bribed unhoused and disadvantaged people with free meals in exchange for donning stupid MAGA hats. Greenland's leaders, shockingly, were not amused. Pipaluk Lynge, the chair of Greenland’s parliamentary foreign and security policy committee, reiterated that the territory wants its "own independence and democracy" and warned the United States not to “invade” the nation, which is largely composed of Indigenous tribes, in light of its historical treatment of Alaska’s Indigenous population. “Greenland is not for sale and will never be for sale,” Aaja Chemnitz, another member of Greenland’s Parliament, said. Something tells us Donald & Co. won't take any of this to heart.
Fetterman to be first sitting Democratic US senator to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago
Racing to fill the "centrist" void left by retired diet-Democrat Joe Manchin in the Senate, none other than John Fetterman has accepted a formal invitation to meet with the MAGA cult leader at Mar-a-Lago and probably kiss the ring. Since running (and winning) his Senate seat as a proud progressive in 2022, Fetterman has banked right on a number of key issues, disappointing a large swath of Democrats who mistakenly saw him as a new brand of straight-talking, no-nonsense liberal uniquely suited to get in the ring with duplicitous Republicans and dismantle their bullshit. At least that's what he presented himself as when he was campaigning. How sorely mistaken...
Appeals court allows special counsel's report about Trump's election interference case to be released to the public
The Donald went 0-for-2 in deeply consequential court rulings yesterday, as it now appears the DOJ's special counsel report on the MAGA cult leader's brazen election interference case will see the light of day after all.

Trump team searching for disease to justify border shutdown
The MAGA cult leader's team is reportedly planning to reimplement Title 42, a border restriction used to block migrants from entering the United States due to public health concerns, but there is a catch. With the COVID-19 pandemic in the rearview mirror, they are apparently still searching for the right disease to justify the policy. Dunno what communicable diseases may be lurking south of the border, but rabid xenophobia is clearly airborne in America and should probably be dealt with post haste.
Civil rights groups warn Laken Riley bill could open the door to Trump’s mass deportations
Immigration attorneys and civil rights groups warn that the first immigration bill of the new Congress is opening the door to Donald Trump’s planned "mass deportation operation" — his pledge to invoke a national emergency, deploy military assets, and send state and local law enforcement into immigrant communities across the country within his first days in office. The Senate voted 84-9 on Thursday to begin debate on the Laken Riley Act, with only nine Democratic senators voting against it and five not voting at all. The House passed the bill by a vote of 264-159 on Tuesday, with 48 Democrats voting for it. The great capitulation to Dear Leader is upon us, folks.
