Mitch McConnell just threatened to block all legislation passed by House Democrats under new rules designed to keep reps safe during the coronavirus pandemic. Politico reports, "McConnell’s comments represent a new threat from the GOP."
Nancy Pelosi tells Politico, "Simply and sadly, he is trying to find every excuse not to meet the needs of the American people."
The new House rules let most members vote from home during the pandemic. Insisting that hundreds of representatives travel back and forth to DC and work in the cramped quarters of the Capitol needlessly puts thousands of lives at risk.
McConnell’s threat is irresponsible and dangerous. It could kill people.
For the HEROES Act, House Democrats adopted major pieces of Elizabeth Warren's Essential Workers Bill Of Rights: workplace safety, hazard pay, child care, paid sick leave. The bill also draws on her proposals with Joe Biden on student debt cancellation and anti-corruption -- and mirrors her ideas on contact tracing, public manufacturing, and automatically sending every voter a ballot to vote from home. She's vowed to push for more corporate oversight and other ideas in the Senate.
