Dear Democrats,

Today, New Mexico’s Supreme Court unanimously upheld New Mexicans’ right to make our own healthcare choices. Democrats in the legislature and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham have already enshrined statewide protections for abortion care, with laws passed in 2021 and 2023, preempting bogus Republican attempted bans in several New Mexican counties and municipalities.  The Court decision reinforced what is already the law of the land here - unlawful ordinances to block access to reproductive healthcare like abortion have no place in New Mexico.

Still, hard work to protect abortion lies ahead. New Mexico is able to remain a safe haven for abortion access because we’ve managed to consistently elect Democrats year after year. But the attempted local bans from the NM GOP make it clear that Republicans won’t stop coming after our essential rights.
