** Supporting our Friends and Neighbors in Need.
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you—both near and far—for your generous and encouraging messages. Your willingness to help means the world to us during this difficult time. I am thankful that while the Eaton fire got dangerously close to my neighborhood, we were spared. However, many of my friends and colleagues have lost everything. I kindly ask that those who believe in the power of prayer send an extra thought for everyone in harm's way in Southern California and beyond. Your positive vibes are greatly appreciated.

I also want to take a moment to express my profound gratitude to the firefighters and first responders who are working tirelessly around the clock to save lives and protect property. Their bravery and dedication are truly inspiring.

As we navigate these challenging circumstances, I would like to bring a few important safety tips to your attention:

1. Water Safety: Please avoid drinking tap water. Opt for bottled or boiled water instead to ensure your safety.

2. Stay Warm Safely: Instead of using gas stoves or wood-burning methods to heat your home, please use extra blankets to stay warm.

3. Car Safety: Do not run your car in a garage or enclosed space, even for charging devices. This poses serious safety risks.

4. Security First: Keep your doors closed and locked. Only listen to verified information from family, friends, and officials with proper identification. Scammers may try to take advantage of the situation.

5. Protect the Vulnerable: Prioritize the safety of children and the elderly, as they are the most vulnerable during emergencies.

6. Medical Assistance: If you need help but it’s not a life-threatening emergency, please visit urgent care or the ER instead of calling 911, as they are currently overwhelmed.

7. Air Quality Precautions: As a pulmonologist, I want to emphasize that the air quality is poor and expected to worsen over the next few days. Those with respiratory conditions (Asthma, COPD, Emphysema, etc.) should take extra precautions, wear masks outdoors, and keep inhalers and nebulizers readily available. Ensure access to power for those who require CPAP or BiPAP machines at night.

8. Emergency Preparedness: Have an emergency kit packed in your car, and make sure your exit routes are clear. Familiarize yourself with how to manually open garage doors in case of power loss.

9. Identification and Contact Information: Always carry your ID and a close contact number with you when leaving home, even if you’re traveling with someone else.

10. Support Those in Need: Many individuals have lost everything or have very little to begin with. I encourage you to consider supporting the Mission of Hope, the largest homeless shelter in our area. We are working to provide basic necessities to those who are not currently in their shelter.

Thank you for your support, compassion, and understanding during this challenging time. Together, we can make a difference.

In Solidarity,

Asif
