We can't let climate deniers stand in the way of our hard-won progress

Though Trump and his clown car of cabinet nominees are poised and ready to dismantle the IRA and bedrock environmental safeguards, it doesn't mean our fight for a safer climate future ends here. It means we have to fight harder than ever to protect all the progress we've made—and Congress has the power to make a real difference in that fight.

Tell your representatives in Congress to defend our hard-won climate gains.

TAKE ACTION

Hi Friend,

As climate grief hangs heavy in the air today, our hearts are with the tens and thousands of Californians affected by the wildfires raging across the region and devastating their communities.

The climate crisis is here and happening in real time, yet President-elect Donald Trump has appointed a trio of climate-denying nominees to head critical energy and environment teams—all of whom are expected to be confirmed by the Senate next week.

If you haven't heard about these disastrous choices, here's a quick primer:

Former Congressman Lee Zeldin—who voted against the Inflation Reduction Act and helped defund public transit in New York City—has been appointed to head the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Governor Doug Burgum—who has deep ties with the fossil fuel industry in North Dakota—has been tapped to lead the Department of Interior.

And last but not least, Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright—who runs an oil and gas company dedicated to fracking—basically purchased his nomination as Secretary of Energy with a $450,000 contribution to Trump's campaign.

With these appointments, Trump has made it crystal clear that he’s hell-bent on pushing his "drill, baby, drill" agenda—and prioritizing loyalty above qualifications when addressing very real environmental concerns, like the wildfires eviscerating entire communities in Southern California.

But we've been here before—and we can stop them from rolling back historic climate wins. We have to get loud and remind Democrats in Congress that they have the power to protect hard-won gains like the Inflation Reduction Act. Will you join us?

TELL CONGRESS: DEFEND CLIMATE PROGRESS

Now is not the time to lose hope and give up. The next four years will have its challenges, but our movement must be ready to push forward, go on offense, and make sure our collective future is one that values people and the planet over profits.

Because the alternative gives Trump and his anti-climate cronies a clear path to undoing these popular climate policies—jeopardizing the health and safety of our communities, the economy, and our nation's ability to achieve our climate goals.

Regardless of whether Zeldin, Burgum, and Wright's confirmations go through, we can't let them attack critical protections for our health and safety, clean air and water, and climate action. And neither should our leaders in Congress.

Thanks for raising your voice in this critical moment,

Maisy Deans
