Dear Neighbors,

As we prepare for the legislative session to begin, I want to address the unique challenges and opportunities we face in the Minnesota House. Following the November election, Minnesotans chose an evenly split House, with 67 Democratic and 67 Republican representatives—a rare occurrence that I view as a golden opportunity to demonstrate true bipartisan leadership.

Despite the equal representation Minnesotans voted for, some Republican members are attempting to exploit a temporary one-seat advantage to gain control of the House for the next two years. This includes plans to unseat duly elected Representative Brad Tabke, disregarding the voices of nearly 22,000 voters. Such actions undermine the principle of fair representation and have no precedent in Minnesota history.

As a dedicated member of the Inclusive Democracy Caucus, I remain steadfast in my commitment to protecting the democratic freedoms and civil rights of all Minnesotans. Our shared goal is clear: to govern effectively and improve the lives of those we serve. This requires working across party lines, finding common ground, and honoring the will of the people.

A majority in the House requires 68 votes, meaning bipartisan collaboration is not just ideal—it is essential. Democrats are ready to get to work, and I call on my Republican colleagues to return to the negotiating table and honor the will of the voters. Together, we can adopt a power-sharing agreement that allows us to focus on what matters most: delivering results for the people of Minnesota.

I remain hopeful that this situation can be resolved before the session begins. My focus is on fostering collaboration and ensuring our government serves as a force for good. I invite you to join me in urging my GOP colleagues to commit to shared power and to work together for the betterment of our state. Minnesota deserves nothing less.
