In several states the last few years, Florida and North Carolina among them, we've seen several candidates run for office and win as a member of one party and then switch to the other party to cement a legislative super-majority and ram through suppressive, anti-voter policies, among other legislation.

One proposed response has been to require party-switchers to immediately run in a special election so that the people have a voice in this process, instead of being stuck with a bait-and-switch from the person whom they thought represented them and their views.
