Last November, we traveled to Colombia to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the Amazon Pearl, a sustainable development area collectively managed by hundreds of campesino families. Culminating a year of solidarity and accompaniment of at-risk leaders from the region, we rejoiced in an all-night celebration of their unwavering resistance.

Despite the constant threat of violence from oil companies and illegal armed groups, the Amazon Pearl has become a beacon of hope, showing us the power of community-led conservation and development to defend the land and the communities who steward it.

Amazon Watch has been proud to support the Amazon Pearl and its efforts since 2021, working alongside communities to protect the region's invaluable biodiversity.

As we face the challenges ahead, we are committed to deepening our accompaniment of the Amazon Pearl and other community resistance movements throughout the Colombian Amazon.
