Friends – with the devastating Eaton, Hurst, Palisades, and Woodley wildfires burning in Southern California, I wanted to quickly reach out to check in.
I hope you and your family are safe.
Watching these destructive fires spread through our communities has been terrifying, and my heart goes out to those who have been injured, lost a loved one, lost a beloved pet, had their home or property destroyed, or been impacted in any way.
I’m incredibly grateful for the first responders and firefighters who are working to respond to the fires, and I’m thinking of them as they put their lives on the line to keep people as safe as possible.
Along with the rest of the California Congressional delegation, I asked President Biden to issue a federal emergency declaration — and I am so grateful he did so quickly.
I will keep pushing for federal support as California works to contain the fires and afterwards, when we work to rebuild.
I urge anyone in the area to pay close attention to updates, follow the guidance of your local officials, and be prepared. The Los Angeles Fire Department website posts alerts regularly, and has helpful information for anyone who may need to quickly evacuate. You can also download the FEMA app to stay updated.
If you’re out of harm’s way and would like to help those in need, consider supporting organizations like the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, United Way of Greater Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
Stay safe,
Sara
