Dear John

In Burma, Mytel is one of the main mobile networks. It is a joint venture between the Burmese military and the Vietnamese military. It is a jewel in the crown of the Burmese military business empire.

Min Aung Hlaing, head of the Burmese military, personally attended the launch of the company in 2018. Mytel has not only provided revenue to the military through profits, but also through leasing land from the military for towers and other infrastructure. Members of the Burmese military and their families receive kickbacks, and free sims are given to soldiers in the Burmese military.

Now, the US has finally sanctioned the company.

Tell the British government to do the same.

You can email British Foreign Secretary David Lammy here, calling on him to sanction Mytel and step up other sanctions to cut off revenue, arms and jet fuel to the Burmese military.
