John,
This Memorial Day, we honor our fallen heroes … those lost on the battlefield … those who never came home … those who continued the fight at home…
And those like Ashley McNorrill, who only later learned the extent of the sacrifices they had made.
Six years after she was deployed to Camp Victory in Baghdad, Ashley began experiencing unexplainable pain and infertility. Then, just two months after she and her husband adopted twin boys, she got a devastating diagnosis — she had stage 4 appendiceal cancer.
Thankfully, a fellow veteran in a support group urged her to find out if her cancer might be service connected — a result of toxic burn pit exposure while serving in Iraq. If it weren’t for this tip, she may have never reached out to DAV and gotten the support and benefits she deserved.
With the help of DAV, Ashley was able to secure a permanent and total VA disability rating, helping ensure her boys would always be taken care of. Sadly, Ashley succumbed to cancer in 2016.
This Memorial Day, help us honor the brave men and women — like Ashley McNorrill — who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and our country.
Please make a special Memorial Day gift to DAV to honor our lost heroes and help ensure today’s veterans get the help and support they need.
