AG Merrick Garland to release report on Trump’s election subversion case
* Attorney General Merrick Garland said ([link removed]) in a court filing that Special Counsel Jack Smith has already submitted his final report regarding President-elect Donald Trump's Washington, D.C. election subversion case and that he intends to release Smith’s report to Congress and the public.
* Yesterday, Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon temporarily blocked the release of the report on Trump's federal criminal cases until the 11th Circuit rules on an emergency request from his former co-defendants in Florida to block the report.

Trump asks SCOTUS to halt sentencing in hush money case
* Trump asked ([link removed]) the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday to halt the sentencing in his hush money case, arguing he’s immune from criminal prosecution since he’s an incoming president. New York prosecutors have until Thursday morning to submit a response.
* He filed a similar request in New York’s highest court this afternoon. This follows a decision Friday from a state judge who upheld Trump’s 34 felony convictions for falsifying business records and scheduled his sentencing for Jan. 10. The judge stated he wouldn’t sentence Trump to jail time or probation.

North Carolina Supreme Court GOP candidate “seeks to tilt the playing field in his favor”
* An extended order from the North Carolina Supreme Court revealed ([link removed]) that Justices Anita Earls (D) and Richard Dietz (R) disagreed with the decision to block certification of the court's election. Dietz wrote that the case "invites incredible mischief."

DOJ sues Pennsylvania city, arguing it’s diluting Hispanic votes
* The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) sued ([link removed]) Hazleton, Pennsylvania, alleging the city's at-large electoral system for city council dilutes Hispanic voters' power and violates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
