There are a couple reasons why I think this special election carried so much weight. With Republicans in control in Washington, protecting our blue wall in the Virginia General Assembly was paramount. That blue wall is now our line of defense in the Commonwealth against the Trump agenda.

Secondly, this special election was our first opportunity after the presidential to send a message to the GOP. Republicans in Virginia and across the nation were watching closely to see how we’d respond to Trump’s victory – and we sent our message loud and clear: we’re not backing down.

This is a huge win, one that deserves to be celebrated.
