It’s undeniably true that the LGBTQ community has made amazing strides in recent years.

But it’s also no secret that the extremism we’re seeing in Washington poses a serious threat to our freedoms going forward. In the new year, some of my colleagues in Congress are wasting no time in targeting LGBTQ folks’ health care, education, and basic safety.

Let me be clear that I will stand up against any extremist effort to take away our rights. I understand that, as one of just a handful of LGBTQ representatives in Washington, there is a lot on the line for LGBTQ Americans in the months and years ahead. But as long as we have the determination to keep pushing forward, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.

Despite the obstacles we now face, this is a fight I still believe we will win. Because I know the American people still believe in freedom, equality, safety, and dignity for all.
