John,
Yesterday on Capitol Hill, Speaker Mike Johnson offered a tepid defense of Republican efforts to dismantle Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid:1
“The president has made very clear -- Social Security and Medicare have to be preserved. No one is coming in with the intention of cutting benefits in any way or any thing... but we have to look at all spending, and we have to look at it very deliberately.”
Speaker Johnson could have been unequivocal. If Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits are off the table, there’s no need to weasel around with a big “but.”
To defend Social Security and Medicare, every threat must be dealt with swiftly. That’s why we’re running billboard trucks in the districts of members of Congress who threaten our Social Security system. Can you chip in $7 today?
Donald Trump doesn’t take office for 12 more days. But his administration is already getting its ducks in a row to slash our earned benefits.
Trump and his cronies aren’t talking about making their billionaire paymasters pay their fair share―they’re debating how big of a tax handout to give the billionaires.
If instead of a tax handout, we made the wealthy pay their fair share, we could not only protect our earned benefits, but EXPAND them.
The first step is to stop the cuts that Republicans like Mike Johnson, Elon Musk, and Donald Trump are threatening. When we stop them, we will show that the people are more powerful than the plutocrats.
Fight back against Social Security cuts! Donate to put pressure on EVERY member of Congress to pledge not to cut Social Security and Medicare!
Thank you,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
