The International Longshoremen's Association and the US Maritime Alliance have resumed negotiations as a potential strike looms over disagreements on port automation. The unionized dockworkers and port operators are at odds on the use of semi-autonomous cranes, which employers argue enhance efficiency but the union fears could threaten jobs. These negotiations are crucial to the US economy as the current labor contract expires on January 15, and failure to reach a deal could lead to a strike affecting ports from Maine to Texas.
Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits has finalized its acquisition of Horizon Beverage Group. The deal includes Horizon's assets, including its operations and beverage portfolios, and allows Southern Glazer to expand into Rhode Island and Massachusetts. "With this acquisition, we're combining Horizon's deep regional expertise with Southern Glazer's advanced technology and robust resources," said Southern Glazer's CEO Wayne Chaplin. "We are excited to bring customers and suppliers enhanced tools, data insights, and service offerings that position us to meet and exceed their needs in these vital markets."
