TOP NEWS
“Dallas weather: Winter storm warning issued Wednesday for snow, ice,” Dallas Morning News' Alex Nguyen and Lana Ferguson — “North Texas is bracing for a wintry mix [ [link removed] ]of snow and rain that is expected to begin overnight Wednesday as the National Weather Service upgraded several North Texas counties, including Dallas, from a winter storm watch to a warning.
Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, Hunt are now under a winter storm warning. Ellis and Kaufman counties remain under a winter storm watch.
The weather service predicted the Dallas-Fort Worth region and the Interstate 20 corridor could soon see 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet as well as up to a tenth of an inch of ice. The accumulation total changed slightly from a prediction on Tuesday that forecast 3 to 6 inches of snowfall in the area [ [link removed] ].
Forecasters also said the precipitation is likely to begin late Wednesday night, but the peak is forecast to happen Thursday before ending midday Friday.
Slick roads and ice on bridges and overpasses are expected during this period.
Communities further north along the Red River could see more travel challenges, as it could face between 2 to 5 inches of snow [ [link removed] ] Thursday, according to the weather service. Some isolated areas of North Texas could have an excess of 8 inches of wintry mix accumulate.
North Texas’ winter weather is occurring as an Arctic blast is also forecast to continue blanketing other parks of the country later this week [ [link removed] ], including an area stretching from the central Plains through the Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic region.
Oncor said in a Tuesday [ [link removed] ] announcement the possible ice accumulation could weigh down tree branches or equipment and disrupt power lines, though it’s difficult to predict local outages.
Utility officials said in the announcement that there could also be repeated problems since the ice and snow could melt and refreeze as temperatures fluctuate. At the same time, slick roads could make it more difficult for Oncor utility crews to travel to areas in need.
ERCOT has issued a weather watch [ [link removed] ] until Friday, but officials said they expect grid conditions to be normal during this period." DMN [ [link removed] ] ($)
