We need to keep talking about it.

Citizens for Ethics & Responsibility in Washington

John,

We read the whole House Ethics Committee’s report on Matt Gaetz so you don’t have to. Here’s what the Ethics Committee found “substantial evidence” that Matt Gaetz did—as a sitting member of Congress:

– Paid young women – including a minor – tens of thousands of dollars for sex
– Violated Florida's statutory rape law
– Used illegal drugs including cocaine and ecstasy
– Violated the House gift rule
– Tried to obstruct the investigation into his conduct

These findings are the culmination of a years-long investigation, and the decision to release this report is a huge and important win for transparency.

But now that the report is released, the work is far from over.

The federal government is no longer investigating Gaetz, but as the ethics report highlights, Gaetz allegedly committed several state crimes.

Matt Gaetz can and should be investigated by local law enforcement for those alleged crimes.

CREW is an ethics watchdog that has been around for over 20 years. From day one, we’ve fought to make our government more transparent and to hold politicians accountable. Now that this report has been released, we need to make sure Matt Gaetz is held accountable. Please make a donation to CREW today and help us continue our fight for accountability →

The ethics report found substantial evidence that Matt Gaetz violated Florida state law by having sex with a 17-year-old, paying for sex and using illicit drugs. We know that the DOJ investigated Gaetz as well, and declined to bring any charges—but we don’t know why. That’s why CREW is suing the DOJ for records of its investigation to make them publicly release why they failed to charge Gaetz.

We want to change the DOJ’s pattern of secrecy around these types of investigations of public figures.

John, just over a month ago, this House Ethics Committee report wasn’t even going to be made public. But because of public pressure, the report was released. That’s how we know that public pressure can work.

We need to keep up the pressure to make sure that these serious allegations are investigated and that the public has the transparency around Gaetz’s conduct that it deserves.

Help CREW continue the fight. By donating today, you’re supporting our work to investigate ethics violations and to hold politicians accountable →
