Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
MPCA webinar will explain updates to feedlot general permits

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is hosting a webinar Jan. 17 that will explain final updates to two permits that regulate the largest animal feedlot operations in Minnesota. The permits finalized Jan. 7, 2025, are the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and State Disposal System (SDS). This is the culmination of a consultative process between the MPCA and other state agencies, farmers, agriculture and environmental advocates, Tribal Nations, and concerned Minnesotans. We value the contributions of all involved in this process. Information in the webinar will be aimed at people who will work with the new permits.

These permits will help protect Minnesota’s water resources by reducing the volume of pollutants entering state waters via manure land application, particularly nitrate, which has been found in community and private well contamination. The MPCA is committed to reducing the potential for nitrate leaching from feedlots to safeguard both ecosystem health and Minnesotans’ drinking water.
