River, risking a devastating oil spill and fuelling climate change.

Petrobras, Brazil’s oil giant, is threatening to kill the Amazon for a
profit. Its ecocidal plans include drilling in the Amazon River basin at
the expense of the natural wonders and resources that both Indigenous
communities and endangered wildlife rely on to survive.

After a decade of devastating fires and exploitation, this could be the
last straw for the Amazon – unless we can convince Brazil's environmental
regulator IBAMA to stop Petrobras in its destructive tracks.

IBAMA already rejected Petrobras’ climate-wrecking proposal last year when
experts pointed out that it would be catastrophic for the Amazon.
But IBAMA could be about to give the green light to this drilling project,
so there’s no time to waste.

Petrobras says it has plans in place to contain a spill, but experts say
the plan is unworkable.

An oil slick could destroy Indigenous livelihoods and kill off animals and
plants already on the verge of extinction. And strong currents could carry
an oil slick to protected areas beyond Brazil, devastating Indigenous
communities in French Guiana.

With climate breakdown on our doorsteps, it makes no sense to drill for
more of the fossil fuels that are driving climate change.

With the next global climate talks taking place in Brazil in a year and
with President Lula’s promise to protect the forests, there is no good
reason for IBAMA to approve this polluting project.

We can still stop this… but only if all of us act now.

This community has come together and won against some of the most powerful
climate-destroying corporations like when we forced insurer Allianz to
stop underwriting oil and gas projects.

We don’t have any more time to waste - the rainforest and the Indigenous
communities that protect it, need our solidarity.
