Since I've been in the AZ Senate, Maricopa County has been the epicenter of bad election integrity practices- many of them looking like outright corruption.
It's the largest county in Arizona, home to 2/3 of Arizona's voters. So when there's a problem there, it causes bigger issues.
The last two county recorders have been hostile and corrupt. They have disobeyed the state laws, passed by the legislature, and caused a crisis of confidence again and again regarding election results. The 2021 Maricopa Audit revealed some of the issues.
In fact, the immediate past recorder took the legislature to court several times- AND LOST.
As of this week, we have a NEW recorder in Maricopa- one who will take seriously his obligations under Arizona law and JUST FOLLOW THE LAW. I know Recorder Heap- he's a good man, an honest man and he will do a great job cleaning up Maricopa's issues!
Like I said, we have spent much of the last four years in court. One of the issues being litigated was a prior AZ law that required that all voters show proof of citizenship.
That is important ESPECIALLY now with Biden's invasion of illegals. We have a lot of illegals here, and with mail in voting, we cannot afford to have any of these people voting.
The Dems challenged it in court. After we won at a lower level, they appealed it to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
And even the Dem-dominated 9th Circus, in California, ruled in our favor!!!
HUGE news with the Governor election coming up!
We certainly have a long way to go- both on closing the border and on election integrity.
The good news is, a lot of the "blocking and tackling" work we've been doing for years now is paying off. It's not always glorious or attention-grabbing, but it is important and it makes a BIG difference.
All told, this is a good way to start the year on the election integrity front- and my Committee's work has not yet even begun!
