Our elections have to mean something.

Roy Cooper for North Carolina

Today, the Republican supermajority on the North Carolina Supreme Court gave their party the chance to toss tens of thousands of legal votes into the trash, unseat a duly elected Supreme Court Justice, and secure even more power for the GOP.

By preventing the Elections Board from certifying Justice Allison Riggs’ electoral victory, the Republican justices are bowing to the Republican Party and the losing Republican candidate instead of the people. They’re telling the voters that as long as Republicans hold power, they can throw out election results when they don’t like the outcome.

John, accepting the results of free and fair elections shouldn’t be about party politics. For the sake of our democracy, leaders must remain committed to ensuring every vote is counted and the people’s voices are heard.

Justice Riggs won. A recount confirmed it. Her opponent’s bid to throw out tens of thousands of legal ballots — including those of several Democratic elected officials and both of Riggs’ parents — is an egregious attempt to silence the voters and manipulate our electoral system.

North Carolina deserves better than power grabs and electoral partisanship. Our elections have to mean something, John.

I need you to stand with me and Justice Riggs immediately and sign my petition opposing the NC Supreme Court’s ruling. Click here to add your name >>>
