Illinois House Republican Conference Chairman Jeff Keicher â a close ally of embattled House GOP leader Tony McCombie, is defending his support of a bill in 2023 that expanded transgender and non-binary patient rights â even becoming angry and dropping the f-bomb before hanging up during a phone call with a female constituent.
âIf someone canât figure out what sex they are they shouldnât be denied access to cancer care,â wrote Keicher on Facebook late on Sunday shortly after Illinois Reviewâs story broke â sparking an instant backlash in the comments section of his post.

Ill. House GOP Leader Tony McCombie
By Illinois Review
On Monday evening, during a tele-town hall meeting, embattled Illinois House Republican Minority Leader Tony McCombie called Illinois Review âfake news,â one day after the conservative, pro-Trump news publication exposed her support for legislation that expanded health care coverage for transgender and non-binary patients in Illinois.
Calling this publication âfake newsâ is a line often used by the anti-Trump wing of the Illinois Republican Party.
Illinois Review remains the largest, conservative, pro-Trump news organization in the state. IR is also the only publication in Illinois to have been shared by President Donald Trump on his personal Truth Social account â proving that the 45th and 47th President of the United States and his team read IRâs stories.
