John,
It’s only been a week into the year, but we’ve got our work cut out for us. The New Year should be a time to celebrate and reflect. But New Year’s eve is too often marred by acts of senseless violence. This year, painfully, was no different.
Over 20% of all gunfire incidents in the last few months of the year happen on New Year’s Eve.
The facts are:
❌ Celebratory gunfire kills and injures people every year.
❌ Unsecured guns lead to preventable tragedies.
❌ Lax and unrestricted access to guns leads to senseless violence.
These cycles of trauma, tragedy, and violence will never stop unless we address the root: We have a gun problem in this country. It runs deep and we HAVE to change the narrative on it.
Our resolution this year? Gun safety. That means protecting real, human lives, because our lives are worth more than a gun. Our lives are worth having to wait a little longer for a background check to clear, or to raise the age to buy a gun. Gun lobbyists don’t care about that. They only care about lining their own pockets. But this year, we will drown them out with our voices.
We’re not stopping any time soon, and we’re entering 2025 ready to roll up our sleeves and do the work. We hope you’ll continue to be with us as we fight for our collective future.
In love and solidarity,
MFOL
Your Personal Invite To the Movement Fund 💌💙 At March For Our Lives, we call our monthly supporter program The Movement Fund. Why are monthly recurring donors so important? The amount of one-time individual donations we receive as an organization varies vastly from month to month. Without a steady stream of monthly donations coming in our door, it would be impossible to accurately plan our budgets, create long-term strategies to win a future free from gun violence, plan and execute on-the-ground organizing efforts, recruit and train more gun safety champions, and more. |
