John,
The next in a long line of problematic Trump Cabinet nominations: Tulsi Gabbard. Trump has nominated her to be the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) — meaning she’d be his principal advisor, but also in charge of the National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council, the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and all 15 other U.S. Intelligence agencies.
It is the most politically sensitive position imaginable, and Trump has chosen Tulsi Gabbard, who regularly parrots Russian propaganda! If confirmed, she would have access to literally every state secret and be responsible for shaping what information Trump receives as President. This would be disastrous for our national security.
Sign on now to demand that the Senate reject Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination to Director of National Intelligence! We have to act to protect the security of the United States.
We’re not the only ones concerned about Gabbard’s nomination. William Webster, former FBI director, wrote a letter to the Senate, saying "I am deeply concerned about the potential… inclusion of Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard as DNI in intelligence roles."
Retired intelligence officer Doug Loudon told ABC News that Gabbard’s spouting of Russian disinformation may result from “naïveté, collusion, or politically opportunistic sycophancy.” — either way, she can’t be trusted to be a level-headed advisor.
Nearly 100 former senior U.S. diplomats and national security officials are urging Senate leaders to disallow the nomination of Gabbard. Her former staff say she consumes Russian propaganda daily, and “behind closed doors,” one GOP aide told The Hill, “people think she might be compromised. It’s not hyperbole. There are members of our conference who think she’s a [Russian] asset.”
But Trump has consistently claimed he trusts Putin more than he trusts U.S. intelligence. Installing Tulsi Gabbard in this position makes sense—he wants to reinforce the echochamber he’s in.
Sign on now to send a message that the Senate must reject this nomination.
Thank you,
Democratic Values
