A recent Washington Post op-ed stated that whichever woman Biden chooses as his vice president "will have a head start on becoming the first female president and on setting the Democratic Party's direction...[Biden's] running mate will be in a position to help shape the agenda ahead."

The importance of the next vice president is hard to overstate.

There are a number of qualified women who could complete the ticket -- with POLITICO calling Kamala Harris an "early favorite," a CBS News poll putting Warren ahead of all others, and reports of potential "dark horse" candidates, like Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, growing by the day.
