It’s a special election day in Virginia, folks! As part of our Democracy Defender program, which endorses candidates who will serve as key firewalls against Republican anti-democracy agendas, the National Democratic Redistricting Committee endorsed Jack Trammell and Kannan Srinivasan for the Virginia Senate and JJ Singh for the Virginia House of Delegates. These races will decide the legislative majority in both chambers. And they’ll determine whether the general assembly will continue to protect fundamental rights and freedoms of all Virginians — including voting rights, reproductive rights, and gun safety measures — or if it will become a rubber stamp to Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin and his effort to dismantle them. Just 7 days into the new year and we’re already back at it, proving there is no off-season for the work we do.
