John --
Within three weeks, mass shootings in Gilroy, CA; El Paso, TX; Dayton, OH; and Brownsville, Brooklyn have galvanized people to turn their mourning and rage into action. Women’s March is joining Guns Down America and March For Our Lives in the call for Walmart to take a stance against gun violence, stop selling guns, and invest in directly impacted communities.
We believe that gun violence is a women's issue and that guns are not how we keep our communities free from violence. 554 American women are shot and killed by their romantic partners every single year, on average—a death every sixteen hours. Hate, rage, racism, white supremacy, and misogyny along with our country’s lax and deadly gun laws leave women, femmes, communities of color and other marginalized groups walking targets. We are tired of living in fear. That’s why we must come together to put an end to this epidemic.
We are in this fight because women and femmes are disproportionately victims of gun violence. We are done living in fear. Are you with us? Sign your name to join the fight.
Advocates and Walmart employees from across the country have been calling on the megastore to stop selling firearms and stop donating to NRA-backed lawmakers. As the largest retailer in the country, Walmart has the power to create real change if it leans into gun safety and we, their consumers, have the power to pressure them to do the right thing. Women represent 75% of Walmart’s customers and over half of Walmart’s employees. We must leverage our power to demand Walmart take a stance against gun violence.
Here’s what we need you to do:
Print and sign this letter demanding Walmart to stop selling guns.
Take a photo with the letter in front of your local Walmart.
Deliver the letter to the Store Manager.
Share your photo with the hashtag #WalmartMustAct and challenge a friend to do the same.
We have a real opportunity to push Walmart to make changes in this country's toxic gun culture. Add your name today and demand Walmart save lives, stop selling guns, and use their influence to help end gun violence.
Walmart has tremendous political and cultural influence, and like all places, women make it run as employees and consumers. Together we can get Walmart to put an end to its business with the gun industry and to stop their support of NRA-backed politicians. We won’t let up until they do the right thing.
In community,
