Team,
Yesterday, we carried out our Constitutional responsibility to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election, a crucial part of the peaceful transfer of power. We also remembered the violence and terror that took place four years ago on January 6th.
That day was a reminder of the fragility of our Democracy and how vigilant we must remain to defend it. We also remember all the law enforcement officers who bravely stood up to protect us that day, especially all those who were injured and who died as a result of their brave service.
In 2022 we passed The Electoral Count Reform Act to help prevent the questioning of election results and avoid the kind of violence we saw on January 6th, 2021. This law improved processes including how states appoint presidential electors, how court challenges to the results should play out, and the counting of votes.
The Constitution mandates that Congress certify the election results on January 6, and that's exactly what we did yesterday afternoon, peacefully and without any election denial. Democrats will continue to do everything we can to ensure the peaceful, lawful transfer of power so we can get back to work on the House and Senate floor and pass meaningful legislation that will benefit the American people.
Thank you for your support.
– Debbie
