Democrat,
As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, we are still experiencing a very different reality than what we are used to at the unofficial start of summer. Our beaches have been allowed to open with social distancing requirements, and large gatherings with friends and families are still limited.
But while the things we do this weekend will be different, the solemn meaning of this holiday is more clear than ever. We must never forget the sacrifices that the men and women of our armed forces have made for us. While we enjoy the long weekend, I ask you to please join us in remembering the lives lost and celebrating their memory.
We also continue to honor the lives lost from COVID-19, as well as the brave and heroic actions of our first responders, medical personnel and essential workers. In that spirit, Governor Murphy penned this moving tribute to our first responders who are working around the clock to keep us safe.
Governor Murphy continues to provide steady leadership as we work towards responsibly and safely reopening our state. His decisions are guided by data and science and he’s not going to give in to political pressure, especially from Trenton Republicans who have proven how out of touch they are by launching partisan attacks against the Governor in the midst of this crisis.
Today, the Governor loosened the limit on outdoor gatherings from ten to 25 people, while also allowing outdoor campgrounds to reopen immediately:
The Governor is also asking us to wear masks or other appropriate facial coverings this weekend while enjoying outdoor activities, especially at our beaches, boardwalks and public walkways:
Earlier this week, Governor Murphy announced that car dealerships and bicycle stores could safely reopen with social distancing practices, a positive step forward for our state economy.

This week, we launched a new campaign asking supporters to vote for their favorite “Don’t Be a Knucklehead” t-shirt design, commemorating Governor Murphy’s new catchphrase that has become a mantra for following social distancing and other public health measures.
So far nearly 3,000 votes have been recorded, and we will be announcing the winning design and offering the t-shirt for sale starting on June 1st. All net proceeds will benefit the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund, so I urge you to take part in this campaign to show your support for Governor Murphy’s leadership in this crisis, while supporting a great cause and having some fun with designs inspired by the Garden State.
Thank you,
Chairman John Currie
