New York Judge Merchan Declines to Delay January 10 Sentencing for Donald Trump
Just the News: New York Judge Juan Merchan on Monday rejected President-elect Donald Trump’s legal team’s attempts to delay the sentencing in the former president’s hush money case. The judge last week set the sentencing date for this coming Friday, Jan. 10, just 10 days before Trump is scheduled to be sworn into office. Merchan also rejected Trump’s attempt to dismiss the case, after his legal team cited the former president’s reelection and the fact that other pending cases against the president-elect that have already been dropped. Merchan has indicated that he is unlikely to impose any jail time in the case. Trump was convicted last year on 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a 2016 payment his then-attorney, Michael Cohen ( Just the News). Fox News: Trump has maintained his innocence in the case and repeatedly railed against it as an example of lawfare promoted by Democrats in an effort to hurt his election efforts ahead of November ( Fox News).

Justin Trudeau Announces Resignation; Will Remain in Office Until Replacement Selected
Wall Street Journal: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Monday that he will resign after almost a decade in power, bowing to members of his party who have been calling on him to step aside ahead of an election later this year. The Canadian leader would exit as one of the most unpopular political figures in the country, leaving his party in a weakened position and his country facing an uncertain economic future, as Donald Trump takes power in the U.S. The president-elect is promising, among other measures, to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian imports. Trudeau is the latest standard-bearer for progressive politics to suffer from a voter backlash, amid economic retreat, discontent with aggressive climate policies and a growing resistance to immigration ( Wall Street Journal). Pierre Poilievre: Nothing has changed. Every Liberal MP and Leadership contender supported EVERYTHING Trudeau did for 9 years, and now they want to trick voters by swapping in another Liberal face to keep ripping off Canadians for another 4 years, just like Justin ( X). Charlie Kirk: Justin Trudeau has officially announced his resignation, will stay on until a successor is selected. “I intend to resign as party leader, as Prime Minister, after the party selects its next leader” ( X).

Susie Wiles, the Incoming Chief of Staff, Is Not to Be Trifled With
Axios: Incoming White House chief of staff Susie Wiles tells Axios in an interview that she aims for the West Wing to be a no-drama zone for staff. If that works, it won’t be the chaotic den of self-sabotaging that stymied the early days of President-elect Trump’s first term… Trump’s 2024 campaign was more organized and less leaky than any previous Trump team. Wiles, who was co-campaign manager, gets much of the credit. Two weeks from today, she’ll bring her formula to Washington ( Axios). Reporter Marc Caputo: Incoming White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles draws a red line: “I don’t welcome people who want to work solo or be a star. My team & I will not tolerate backbiting, second-guessing inappropriately, or drama. These are counterproductive to the mission” ( X).

McDonald’s Reverses DEI Initiatives
National Review: McDonald’s announced Monday that it will be scaling back some of its diversity, equity, and inclusion measures in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to ban race-based college admissions policies and amid a growing conservative push to restrict the progressive corporate initiatives… The initiatives McDonald’s is walking back include its DEI pledge for suppliers and demographic-based representational goals. McDonald’s is also changing how it refers to its diversity team and is pausing its external surveys to focus on internal improvements. “We are also excited to introduce a new concept: the power of OUR ‘Golden Rule’ – treating everyone with dignity, fairness and respect, always. For the last several months, a small team has been working on refining our language to better capture McDonald’s commitment to inclusion,” the statement reads ( National Review). Mario Nawfal : Looks like the golden arches finally figured out what most Americans already knew – you can’t flip burgers with quotas. McDonald’s joins Walmart and Ford in ditching DEI targets, signaling corporate America’s great awakening from woke delusions. Despite claiming to remain “committed to inclusion,” the message is clear: Merit beats mandates ( X).

Biden Quietly Cracks Down on Water Heaters in New Series of Climate Regulations
Free Beacon: The Biden administration finalized climate regulations to ban most natural gas-powered instantaneous water heaters—a move that critics say will drive up costs for consumers. The Department of Energy—which formally published the rules the day after Christmas—didn’t issue a press release announcing the action, a departure from past appliance regulations. The published rules say the regulations are expected to help the climate by curbing carbon dioxide emissions. Overall, under the regulations, roughly 40 percent of the new tankless water heaters available in the United States today will be taken off the market by 2029. Experts and industry officials say that will force consumers to purchase either more expensive or less efficient water heater models. One industry analysis estimates that consumers will pay $450 more on average when purchasing new water heaters thanks to the regulations. And that will impact low-income and senior households, which are most reliant on the models targeted by the Department of Energy ( Free Beacon). Steve Guest: The cruelty is the point: On the way out the door, the Biden Department of Energy “finalized sweeping new climate regulations that would drastically raise prices on gas-powered water heaters.” A cold shower, courtesy of Joe Biden ( X).

Biden Rams Through Legislation Banning Oil, Gas Drilling Across 625 Million Acres of Coastal Lands in Final Weeks of Presidency
Trump says he’ll “unban it” immediately. Fox News: President Biden announced an 11th-hour executive action on Monday that bans new drilling and further oil and natural gas development on more than 625 million acres of U.S. coastal and offshore waters. Biden, whose term expires in two weeks, said he is using authority to protect offshore areas along the East and West coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and portions of Alaska’s Northern Bering Sea from future oil and natural gas leasing. He invoked the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, meaning President-elect Trump could be limited in his ability to revoke the action. Congress might need to intervene to grant Trump authority to place federal waters back into development ( Fox News). Trump War Room: PRESIDENT TRUMP: “I see it just came over that Biden has banned all oil and gas drilling across 625 million acres of U.S. coastal territory. It’s ridiculous. I’ll unban it immediately” ( X).

Britian Has Ignored Rapes by Pakistani Immigrants for Decades
Free Press: The grooming and serial rape of thousands of English girls by men of mostly Pakistani Muslim background over several decades is the biggest peacetime crime in the history of modern Europe. It went on for many years. It is still going on. And there has been no justice for the vast majority of the victims. British governments, both Conservative and Labour, hoped that they had buried the story after a few symbolic prosecutions in the 2010s. And it looked like they had succeeded—until Elon Musk read some of the court papers and tweeted his disgust and bafflement on X over the new year. Britain now stands shamed before the world. The public’s suppressed wrath is bubbling to the surface in petitions, calls for a public inquiry, and demands for accountability. It’s not just about the heinous nature of the crimes. It’s that every level of the British system is implicated in the cover-up. Social workers were intimidated into silence. Local police ignored, excused, and even abetted pedophile rapists across dozens of cities. Senior police and Home Office officials deliberately avoided action in the name of maintaining what they called “community relations.” Local councilors and Members of Parliament rejected pleas for help from the parents of raped children. Charities, NGOs, and Labour MPs accused those who discussed the scandal of racism and Islamophobia. The media mostly ignored or downplayed the biggest story of their lifetimes. Zealous in their incuriosity, much of Britain’s media elite remained barnacled to the bubble of Westminster politics and its self-serving priorities. They did this to defend a failed model of multiculturalism, and to avoid asking hard questions about failures of immigration policy and assimilation. They did this because they were afraid of being called racist or Islamophobic. They did this because Britain’s traditional class snobbery had fused with the new snobbery of political correctness. All of which is why no one knows precisely how many thousands of young girls were raped in how many towns across Britain since the 1970s ( Free Press). Elon Musk: For anyone doubting the severity and depravity of the mass gang rapes of little girls in Britain, go to the source material and read the court transcripts. I did. It is worse than you could possibly imagine ( X).

MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend: “it's not true that Biden doesn't have the mental acuity”
Daily Wire: MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend claimed during a panel discussion that President Joe Biden was “unequivocally” more mentally fit than President-elect Donald Trump — over the objections of at least two of her fellow panelists. Sanders-Townsend, who worked on Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign and then worked for Vice President Kamala Harris before leaving the administration to go to MSNBC, made the comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” ( Daily Wire). Bobby LaValley: Marc Short: What hurt Democrats in November to try to tell the American people something they could see with their own eyes wasn’t true. Symone Sanders: But it’s not true that Biden doesn’t have the mental acuity. Short: Of course it is, Symone! Imagine people saw that for themselves in the debate! Sanders: What are you saying? He can at least put a sentence together. Short: Are you sure ( X)?

U.S. Steel, Japan’s Nippon Steel Sue President Biden for Blocking Merger
Townhall: In a last-ditch effort to save the attempted merger between U.S. Steel and Japan’s Nippon Steel, the two companies sued President Biden and other administration officials on Monday over the president’s decision last week to block the $14 billion deal over national security concerns. Biden argued last week that it’s his “solemn responsibility” to ensure America retains a “strong domestically owned and operated steel industry.” “U.S. Steel will remain a proud American company – one that’s American-owned, American-operated, by American union steelworkers – the best in the world,” he added ( Townhall). U.S. Steel: U.S. Steel announced it has filed multiple lawsuits in response to the wrongful interference with its proposed acquisition by Nippon Steel. We will vigorously defend our rights to complete this transaction & secure the future of U. S. Steel ( X).
