Dear John,
While the 2024 presidential election outcome was devastating, the peaceful transfer of power is one of the most fundamental principles of American democracy. It distinguishes our system of government from monarchy or tyranny.
Today we would like to thank California’s own Vice President Kamala Harris for doing her part in overseeing the peaceful transition of power by certifying the 2024 election results.
This duty is a sacred obligation.
We have seen that our democracy can be fragile. Four years ago, Donald Trump’s lies about the validity of the 2020 Election inspired an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. We solemnly remember this tragic event — especially the memories of those who died in the aftermath.
And that’s why it is up to each of us to stand up for our most cherished principles.
We must stay engaged over the next four years, and continue to fight for our values against the incoming Trump Administration. Our team at the California Democratic Party is already building our roadmap for taking back control of the U.S. House ( we flipped three seats blue in 2024 ), and we hope you will be a part of that.
Together, we will keep progress moving forward.
