Indivisibles,

Four years ago, on January 6th, our Capitol was stormed. Not by patriots
but by MAGA loyalists hell-bent on violently overturning a legitimate
election. They were led by Donald Trump, who fed them the lies that fueled
their fury. Today, Trump’s reelection was certified by Congress, and in
just two weeks, he’ll reclaim the office he tried to steal.

Trump’s reelection has shielded him from facing the repercussions of his
actions that day and his many other crimes (both alleged and for which
he’s been convicted). And it's put him in a position to fulfill his
promise to pardon the 1500+ criminals who were involved in the attempted
coup.

Unfortunately, there’s not really a silver lining here. We wish we had
something new, novel, or inspiring to say, but the reality today is that
Trump got away with it. This is a massive failure of our institutions and
a brutal reminder that the wealthy and powerful too often skate above the
laws that bind the rest of us.

Senate Republicans had their chance to convict Trump for his incitement of
the January 6th riot, but they lacked the courage to pursue justice. Now,
he's been reelected and is surrounding himself with out-of-touch
billionaires and nominating MAGA sycophants to high-power cabinet
positions. The ugly truth is that not holding Trump accountable was a
moral and political failure that has allowed extremism and corruption to
nestle comfortably at the highest levels of our government.

If you feel furious today about the fact that people who made a mockery of
our democracy have skirted accountability for their actions and are set to
retake power -- we’re right there with you. If you feel dejected seeing
how badly the system has failed us -- we understand. But instead of giving
in to despair, let’s put our anger to use. Let’s let it fuel us. We’re not
sitting back while Trump and MAGA continue to dismantle our democracy.
We’re going to fight, and we’re going to build a movement strong enough to
stop him and hold those who abuse their power accountable.

Accountability won’t come easily. It's something we must actively demand
and pursue, through every avenue we can. Over these next four years, we're
not just going to watch helplessly as Trump consolidates his power; we’re
going to act, organize, and fight harder than we ever have before.

We've got a mountain of opportunities ahead to block Trump's toxic
policies and to chip away at the Republicans’ fractured coalition, so
let’s get ready -- because democracy doesn’t defend itself.

We’ve only got a few to-dos this week, so take some time and rest up for
the hard work ahead.

 Your weekly to-dos

 1. [ [link removed] ]Join our “Help Over Hate” Weekend of Service. Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. taught us that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice
everywhere, so this inauguration weekend -- as Trump and his allies
prepare to attack our rights and divide our communities -- we’re
coming together through action and solidarity. From January 17-20,
Indivisible groups across the country will unite for this weekend of
service by hosting events designed to empower their community. Check
out the toolkit to find out how you can participate!
 2. [ [link removed] ]Brace for Impact with Indivisible’s co-founders this Thursday,
January 9 at 3pm ET/12pm PT. Trump’s inauguration is two weeks away,
and a new MAGA Congress is now in session. Electeds, corporations, and
mainstream media are already falling in line with Trump’s agenda, but
we’re seeing a wave of new energy from folks who are ready to fight
back. Join Leah and Ezra this week for a live discussion and Q&A
session on how to prepare for what’s ahead and what we know about this
new Congress.
 3. [ [link removed] ]Tell your Republican senators to block Kash Patel from becoming the
Director of the FBI. Of all the unhinged cabinet nominations made by
Trump since his reelection, one of the most dangerous is his choice of
Kash Patel for Director of the FBI. Appointing Patel to this role
would entrench the worst abuses of power and turn the bureau into a
tool for political vengeance. If you have a Republican senator,
contact them today and tell them to oppose Kash Patel’s confirmation
as FBI Director.
 4. [ [link removed] ]If you haven’t already, read the new Indivisible Guide. Our new
“Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink” is brimming with tips and
strategies designed to help you organize effectively and push back as
Trump seeks to dismantle our democracy and roll out Project 2025. Once
you’ve finished reading the guide, [ [link removed] ]take our short survey and let us
know if there’s anything else you need to make it actionable.

P.S. -- Every dollar we raise means more pressure on MAGA and more
resources for Indivisible groups on the frontlines of the fight to save
our democracy. [ [link removed] ]Please consider chipping in to fuel the vital work ahead
to defy Trump and block his authoritarian agenda.
