Memorial Day
Monday, May 25th, is Memorial Day, a day set aside each year to honor military members who gave their lives defending our nation and its freedoms. America has been blessed with those in every generation who have been willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Usually, we encourage you to visit cemeteries and leave flags at the graves of these fallen heroes. However, this year, with the ongoing COVID-19 situation, many national cemeteries are not allowing large gatherings (such as those who typically organize the events to leave flags at the graves), and other Memorial Day events are being cancelled. But, you can still honor our American heroes!
First, we encourage you to visit some of the websites with information about America's fallen. These websites include information relating to WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the modern wars. Turn this into a time to teach children about these heroes and encourage them to honor these men and women for the sacrifices they made.
Second, check with your local cemetery to see if they are open to visitors and leave flags on the graves of veterans you may find there. (You can find these flags at Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, office supply stores, and similar places.) Get your whole family to place flags and pray for the families of all those who gave their lives.
Make this Memorial Day special by remembering those who gave their all for our freedom.
