John,
Four years ago today, white supremacists attempted a violent coup.
That coup was based in fear, stoked by members of Congress inside the building being attacked.
Donald Trump essentially begged for that insurrection himself, and this year he’s promised to pardon anyone convicted as part of that violent insurrection as soon as he steps back inside the Oval Office.
Americans can say they are not white supremacists in their support of Donald Trump, and for many that may be true—but they did not mind handing the White House to him, knowing he himself is a white supremacist.
This is where we are now. Another year of seeing what protest means depending on who is doing the protesting. For white Americans who murdered and assaulted police officers, it means pardons. For Black Americans protesting the murder and assault by police officers in their own communities, it means suppression and violence.
VS.
If you’re ready to speak up and speak out, now is the time. Our demands since that day have been abundantly clear: Expel members of Congress who incited the attack and have tried to delegitimize our democratic process. Divest from systems of incarceration and police brutality and IN systems of true community safety. And investigate white supremacy within our institutions.
These demands are more critical than ever, as we face the second coming of the Trump Administration on the United States. You can add your voice to those who want better, from our institutions and for our citizens: It's time to protect and expand our democracy in the name of Black lives and accountability, and it starts with chipping in anything you can right now.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter
Our grassroots movement is pushing for Black liberation every single day. We are striving to create a world where Black people do so much more than just survive. It’s time we thrive.
As an organization one of our biggest hurdles is consistency.
A recurring contribution of anything you can afford goes a long way as we plan for the months, years, and even decades ahead. This is the most effective way for small-dollar donors (like you) to power our Black liberation work.
Will you make a recurring contribution of $5 or more today so that we can keep building momentum for our movement?
