# [#]Friend,

The new Congress convenes today to certify the results of the 2024 election, an important step in the peaceful transfer of power.

Today’s events remind us that just four years ago, on January 6, 2021, our Capitol was attacked by rioters who wanted to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.

These insurrectionists, gathered and inspired by Donald Trump, attacked Capitol Police, broke into the Capitol building, and temporarily disrupted the certification of the 2020 election. It was a devastating attack on our nation’s democracy.

Four years later, Trump is now pledging to pardon the convicted criminals who attacked our Capitol. This would be a massive affront not only to the members of law enforcement who defended our Capitol that day—but also to our democracy itself.

As the new Congress convenes today, I will continue fighting to protect our democracy and ensure that the voices of the people—not the powerful few—are heard in Washington. I hope I can count on you to have my back in that fight.

Friend, can you chip in $5, $10, or whatever you can to help my team and I defend democracy in this critical moment? Our democracy may face serious challenges in the months ahead and your support will give us the resources to push back. [[link removed]]

CHIP IN! >> [[link removed]]

While the January 6, 2021 insurrection sought to undermine our democracy, it failed—thanks to people like you. Together, we can continue to strengthen and secure our sacred democracy.

Thank you,
– Joaquin
