Social Security is a promise to all Americans that they can retire with dignity. It is only right that every single senior receives all of the benefits they are entitled to. That’s why I was proud to vote for the Social Security Fairness Act. And yesterday, President Biden signed this bill into law.

This is a big deal – this law repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offsets, which means that our retired police officers, firefighters, teachers, and public employees will finally be paid what they are owed. It will boost the Social Security payments for nearly 3 million public sector retirees who draw public pensions. Currently, public service employees are unable to receive their full Social Security benefits if they also receive other forms of retirement benefits, such as a pension.

As a former public-school teacher, I know how much public servants sacrifice in order to serve their community. Finally, the government is making sure all their hard work pays off. I was proud to work with my colleagues to pass the Social Security Fairness Act to deliver for these retirees.
